CENTRAL INSPECTION 2008 - to be a 2-day event
This year, the Central Inspection will include something new: a special Sports Day for the Friesian horse. This means that the Central Inspection will be a 2-day event. On Friday afternoon, October 17, the CI will start off with the finals for the Competition for Young Friesian Horses with Dressage Aptitude. Friday evening will be devoted to both dressage competition and harness competition as well as various clinics and shows starring the Friesian horse in the role of sport horse.

On Saturday, October 18, the first-premium mares will be inspected. The best mares from their classes will then compete against each other at the end of the day for the various championship ribbons with excitement building for the last event of the day: the awarding of the general championship. As always, Saturday will be enlivened with a variety of shows.

Another premier this year for the CI will be the first Young Stallions Competition of the season, thus making Saturday evening more thrilling than ever! So be sure to keep both of these days reserved for the CI. More information will be announced at the website or in Phryso.

Final Young Stallion Competition to be held during Stallion Inspection
Every year, the program for the KFPS Stallion Inspection is bigger than the one before. And the one to be held in the WTC Expo in Leeuwarden from January 8 through 10, 2009 will be no exception. Added to this year’s event will be the last Young Stallion Competition of the season. This finale, in which all the stallions not yet approved on the basis of their offspring compete with each other in dressage and harness competition, will be held on Thursday evening.

As usual, Thursday afternoon is reserved for clinics open for viewing to all lovers of Friesian horses. Thursday evening is thus scheduled for the first part of the Stallion Inspection.

Friday and Saturday are dedicated to stallion inspections and studbook stallions. As always, an exciting auction will be held and a spectacular evening of shows is planned for Friday evening.

Friesian Horses to grace the stage at HOYS

Horse of the Year Show (HOYS), the UK’s biggest indoor equestrian event, is excited to be welcoming an exclusive display to this year’s event. Making their UK debut, professional Dutch dressage riders will perform in a unique quadrille featuring beautiful Friesian horses specially selected from the Worldwide Mother Studbook.

The display is an artistic ride to music using horses all trained to the highest level of dressage. The horses are stallions from 5 to 12 years old and will be travelling all the way from the Friesland region of the Netherlands especially for Horse of the Year Show. The riders, also from Friesland, have a lifelong experience in breeding, training, riding and driving these talented horses.

John Ombler, the coordinator and president of the Friesian Horse Association of Great Britain and Ireland Ltd, said, “I am very excited at the prospect of having such an artistic display of very beautiful Friesian Horses for the first time at HOYS.  This is such a privilege for everyone involved.”

HOYS is particularly proud to be the first show in the UK to feature a display by a breed which has such a long and romantic history. The breed developed many centuries ago in Friesland and by the early Middles Ages, the horse was already known by the name of the area in which it originated. Because of their strength and agility Friesians were  desirable war horses.

Jolanda Schreuder, a member and producer of several well known displays with Friesian horses including the Friesian stallion carrousel and the Dutch champion Friesian dressage quadrille, commented,  “We are looking forward to showing the crowds these horses that were coveted by knights, kings and farmers, for their looks, their nature and their history. But above all they love their audience and will dazzle in the spotlight in October when they perform in the main arena at HOYS.”

Typically, Friesian horses have a long heavy mane, tail and fetlocks. The breed standard is pure black with the possibility of a small white star on its forehead.  These horses are strong and muscular and known for their excellent disposition and unique nature.  Friesians have an elegant build and powerful elevated gaits, captivating audiences and making them very popular for dressage. Horse of the Year Show hosts the finals of the most highly regarded showing and show jumping championships and celebrates the end of the competitive season in true style. From stunning displays to tense competition Horse of the Year Show is an equestrian extravaganza not to be missed.
